Fully automated tool storage for press tools
By the installation of a new tool warehouse at AMAG extrusion Inc. in Ranshofen the stock keeping of all press tools ought to work on a steel pallet. On an area available near the production area approx. 2.000 pallets with a total of 16.000 tools had to be housed. This was enabled by a 4-alley warehouse with cross corridor and a curve suited rack feeder.
A basic improvement of the technical workflow at cleaning, correction and preparation of the tools was reached by a central position of the tool warehouse between tool correction and tool cleaning with direct transport connection.
Aberle Automation has been assigned as general contractor for the task.
The integrated components
With a new warehouse management system (LVS) performed as LVR-server (cold standby), as well as 4 client-workstations with all required LVR-dialogues and integrated visualisation the new plant user can dispose over an optimum handling- and information surrounding.
The automatic curve suited rack feeder as well as the floor mounted conveyor system will be controlled by a Siemens SPS S7 316-2 DP. The regulation and positioning of the driving axles of the rack feeder will be controlled by a frequency converter and an absolute distance measuring device. The safety requirements were filled in optimally with an innovative safety technique like BWS and an electro magnetically locked protection door switch.
The area provided by AMAG extrusion Inc. was used optimally by the integration of a curve suited rack feeder with four length and one cross corridor. Due to the central position between tool correction, tool cleaning and tool preparation all areas are connected to the central warehouse by the shortest way.
Storage of tools is done on a specially manufactured
steel pallet in lying position. The identification of the tools is effected by graphical support of the LVR-clients. Specially developed tools, which are integrated in the LVR-system, show the actual tool status at any time. This is important to all departments from production planning to tool correction as an important source of information.
