The project / The customer requirement

With an annual turnover of about EUR 700 million, 1,800 employee and production output of 500,000 t of special papers and cardboard, the August Koehler SE paper factory is one of the most important independent companies in the German paper industry. The paper manufacturer is a leading manufacturer of carbonless paper throughout Europe. For thermal papers and beer coasters, the corporate group is a global market leader.

Growing demand and the company’s service claim could hardly be kept in balance with the warehouse structures at the Oberkirch location. Numerous external warehouses also drive the costs up in the logistics area. The family company therefore decided on radical rebuilding: A new cutting and logistics centre with fully automated high bay warehouse was to make the location sustainable. The existing high bay warehouse operated by narrow aisle forklift trucks had to be removed to create the needed space.

Aberle completed the project as general contractor based on plans for an automated logistics centre by the consulting company Luy & Partner GbR. With intelligently designed material flows as well as system equipment and process management designed for maximum flexibility with the Aberle process management system PMS, a solution was implemented with a range of industry-specific special features.

For the facade, architectural specification had to be followed for a regionally compatible integration into the fruit and wine region of Oberkirch.
