The project / The customer requirement

With its product pallets for practices and laboratories – including dental instruments and hygiene systems as well as treatment units – Sirona Dental Systems GmbH is a market and technology leader in the dental market. To supply production and packaging as well as stock replacement parts, Sirona uses two automated small parts warehouses at its Bensheim location.

Both went into operation in 1993, and offer a one and three aisle layout with more than 15,000 storage spaces. While the steel construction had withstood the decades, the lack of dynamic and the high fail rate for the devices had limited availability of the warehouse significantly.

The system modernisation, also called retrofitting, is a tested method for strengthening intralogistics. Based on an agreed upon expert opinion, the modernisation of automated warehouses improve warehouse availabilities, increase throughput and order processing, reduce personnel costs and optimise potential by up to 30 percent. Additional benefits: Compared to new constructions, retrofit activities can generally be done more cost-effectively, quickly and during ongoing operations.

In a far-ranging modernisation project, Aberle set-up the two automated small parts warehouses with future-proof logistics. The automated small parts warehouses’ hardware was upgraded with state-of-the-art control technology in record time during ongoing Operation.
